THE VIRGIN ISLANDS POLICE DEPARTMENT “To Protect and Serve” Office of the Commissioner VIPD NEWS RELEASE - 033123-095 For Immediate Media Distribution March 31, 2023 Investigation Reveals Woman Used Employer’s Credit Card to Pay Utility Bills St. Croix, U.S.V.I. - On November 11, 2022, the Economic Crimes Unit initiated an investigation into several complaints filed by TBKC, LLC against Jahreema Barnes with the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD). Their investigation revealed that in one incident, while Barnes was employed as a manager at the business, she knowingly and intentionally used one of the business owner’s Pentagon Federal Credit Union visa credit cards on two separate occasions totaling $1,023.00, which was used to pay her Water and Power Authority and AT&T bills without authorization. An arrest warrant was obtained for Jahreema Barnes in reference to this matter. On March 30, 2023, the United States Customs and Border Protection office contacted the VIPD National Crime Information Center in reference to Jahreema Barnes being present at the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport, attempting to board a flight to Florida. The Economic Crimes Unit Detectives traveled to the Henry E. Rohlsen airport, where Jahreema Barnes was served the arrest warrant, advised of her Miranda Rights, and placed under arrest without incident. Jahreema Barnes, age 39, was transported to the Police Operation Building, where she was subsequently, booked and charged with Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card, Obtaining Money by False Pretenses, Grand Larceny, and Access to Computers for Fraudulent Purposes. Based on the incident, bail was set at $10,000.00 dollars for the alleged incident. Unable to post bail, in the amount of $10,000.00, Jahreema Barnes was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correction Facility pending her Advice of Rights Hearing. ###
