Act of Congress
entitled “‘An Act to
pro-
vide

temporary
Government
for

West
Indian
Islands
acquired
by
the
Uni:ed Statrs
from
Denmark’’,
etc..
ap-
proved
by
the
President
on
the 3rd
day
of March,
1917,
it is further provided in
said Act as follows:
“That; until Congress
shall
otherwise
provide,
in
so far as compatible
w.ih
the
changed
sovereignty
and
not
in
conflict
with
the
provisions oft is
Act,
the
laws
regulating
electicas
and
the
electoral
franchise
as

forth
in
the code of laws
publiskod
at
Amalienborg

Apiil,
1906,
and
the
other
local
laws
in
foree and effect

Islands

the salaries

add
to
the
salaries

is hereby
authorized

prices
for

cles of food
sold

powers

set forth.
2.
The said
Jommission
shall
be known

as
the
‘‘Food
Commission
of
St.
|
Croix’’.
The
members
of
which

Food
Commission
shall
be

for a period of one year

Commission

to

inspection by

if necessary,

poenas
for

attendance
of

nesses
or for the production

or other documents,

it shall have

the
power
to
take testimony
under
oath.

It shall

the power

prices

quantities
at
which
all

may
be
sold by wholesalers, retaiiers,

however,

reasonable
margin
of
profit

be
allowed.
