UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS

BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION



PURPOSE: To approve the granting of Professor Emeritus Status to Prof. Helen Gjessing,

Retired Professor of Biology, St. Thomas Campus.



WHEREAS, at its meeting on June 18, 1981, the Board of Trustees of the University of the

Virgin Islands approved a policy for the conferring of emeritus status on former faculty members of

the University of the Virgin Islands, and



WHEREAS, Prof. Helen Gjessing retired from full-time active teaching at the University of

the Virgin Islands in June 1999, after serving as Professor of Biology for thirty-four years in a

meritorious manner, and



NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT:



The Board of Trustees approves the granting of Professor Emeritus Status to Prof.

Helen Gjessing, retired Professor of Biology on the St. Thomas Campus.

The undersigned does hereby certify that the foregoing isa true and exact copy of the resolution of



the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands adopted at its meeting on October 14,

2000 and recorded in the minutes of said meeting.
