convention

new
Governor of
the Virgin Islands,
This is
“his first
visit
to St.
Croix
and
his
first
meeting
with the Colonial Council of this
Island.
I
am
sure
that
I
express
the
sentiments
of
all
the Members,
when
I
say
that
we
are
happy
to have him
with
us,
and
that
we regret
that
His "Excel-
lency’s
first visit to
our
islands
has
not
been
under
better
and
more
promising
conditions
than
at
present
exists.
We
are
still suffering
from
the effects
of
a
prolonged
drought, aqd
rea, ing
a
small
crop with very
low prices.
'i'he
general
Prospect
is not
as pleasing
as
we
would
like it to be,
2nd
the future does
not look
very promising.
His
Excellency
in
pri-
vate
conversation
has
informed
me
that
he
hopes
to be
with
us for
a few -days,
let
us
hope
that
during
that
time,
in
spite
of the
not
too
favourable
outlook
and
general
conditions
now
prevailing,
that in his goings
to and fro
throughout
the
island,
he will take
away
with
him
when
he leaves,
such
pieasant
and
con-
genial
remembrances
of his
visit,
that
he
will desire
to
come
back
soon,
and
often,
to be among
us.
