Collected from the discharge point of a sink located inside the paint storage room. The overlying water was removed and the sampling location screened with the OVA obtaining read- ings of 30 units. The top 1/4" of soil was removed with a dedicated garden trowel and the sample collected with a dedicated plastic scoop and placed in a dedicated stainless steel bowl. After filling the two 40-mL VOA vials, the soil in the bowl was thoroughly mixed and transferred to a 32- oz glass jar. Sample to be analyzed for volatile and semivo- latile organics. Shipped as dangerous goods (Solid contain- ing flammable liquid, n.o.s. (benzene); UN 3175) Grab sample from soil east of the Laga Building. Collected from a low area where water discharged from a sink located inside the paint storage room accumulates. Sampling loca- tion was screened with the OVA obtaining readings not different than background levels (0.2 unit). The top 4" of soil was removed with dedicated garden trowel and the sample collected with a dedicated plastic scoop and placed in a dedicated stainless steel bowl. After filling the two 40-mL VOA vials, the soil in the bowl was thoroughly mixed and transferred to a 32-oz glass jar. Sample to be analyzed for volatile and semivolatile organics. Shipped as environmental sample. Grab sample from soil east of the Laga Building. Collected from a shallow ditch where water discharged from a sink located inside the paint storage room flows. Composite sample of two holes in the concrete floor of the plumbing shop. Holes are I- 1/2" diameter and approxi- mately 4" deep with a hard bottom. PID monitoring of the holes conducted on 21 November gave readings between 50 and 130 units. The oil in the holes was initially collected with a dedicated 40-mL syringe but it broke during sam- pling and a dedicated thin glass tube was used to collect the remaining oil. Oil was placed in sampling jars as it was being collected. Oil in the holes was only sufficient to fill two 40-mL VOA vials. No more sample was available. Sample to be analyzed for volatile and semivolatile organics. Shipped as dangerous goods (Flammable liquid, n.o.s. (benzene); UN 1993). 6. Sampling Personnel: Ivdn Garcia, Env. To keep the samples cool, the sampling team replaced the ice bags with newly packed bags on the afternoon of 8 December. The samples left St. Thomas the night of 8 December. All samples, except TWS-06, were delivered to the lab by Fed Ex on 12 December 1994. Sample TWS-06 was lost in transit and delivered on 14 December 1994. A Fed Ex report on shipping delays and mishandling will be provided under separate cover.
