yesterday
and conducted
itsinvestigation
into “he stock
of sugar
held by merchants
which disclosed
that
some
400 bags
are
on hind in Christiansted,
with littie more
than
half
that
amount
in
Frederiksted
mak ng
a
total of over
600
bags for
the
island.
Tt
has
been
decided
that
as
mas:
that sugar
was
bought
at 13
cents
the price
would
again
be
fixed at
16 to
enakle
the
turning
over
of
the
article
without
loss.
Some
few
holders
have
smail
quantities
of
sugar
bought
from
the
St. Croix
Sugar
Factory
at
t veive
cents
and
these
will
of
course
gain
a
negligible
increase
of
profit
over
thos2
who
bought
from
Bethle-
hem
at
13
cents,
but
otherwise
it
would
-
appear
that
the
action
taken
by
the
commission
is
about
the
onlv
practical
one
under
the
circumstances.

notion
by
Mr.
Svend
Jorgensen
to
have
the price of meat
(live and slaugh-
tered
ecattle)
increased
in yroportion
to
the
9% cents

claims
to
be
offered
for
