The
programme
begins
with
the
comprehensive
word,
‘‘Peace’ following
the preamble,

which
it is once again
strongly
emphasized
that
the
complete
tranquility
of Europe
is essentialil the
Genoa conference
is
to
amount
to
any-
thing.

Briand,
bearing
the text
of
the
long-sought
British
al-
liance,
will
face
the
French
Parliament
to-mmorrow,
which
although
hostile
to-
night,
may
nevertheless,
in
the opinion
of many
observers,
give
him
a
vote
of
confidence,
because
it
dare
not refusea
concrete
pact
owing
to
differences
of
opinion concerning
some
of
the
clauses
and concessiorns.
Both Senate
and Cham-
ber party,
caucases,
have
sent
messages
of
protest
to
M.
DBriand
and
there
is
much
talk
of
overthrowing
the
Gov-
ernment,
as
has
been
the
case
in
the
past
years.

meeting
with

cabinet

net
meeting
was
concluded

after
a
two
hour
session.

Premier,
it was indicated,
had

plaired
the situation,
with
the result
of
removing
such
doubts
as
his
colleagues
have
had over the situation.

Yorkers
without mevey,
carrying
many
across
slippery sidewalks
and
plunging
them
face-downwards
in slushy
streets.

fell before

wind,

A chimuey
125 feet
tall
crashed
in Brooklyn.

A widespread
in-
fluenza epidemic,
now present
in several
parts
of
the
United Kingdom,
had
be-
come
a
normal
annual
event
in the
past
year.
Up to yesterday,
althrugh
numer-
ous
cases
nave
been
reported,
they
have
geierally
been
mild,
with
a very
small
proportion
of
deaths.
Anu official stat:-
ment
issued
a
week
ago
showed
the
visitation
to be
not
more
serious
than
that
of last year,
but
a
sudden
increase
of
the numbers
of cases
in the
last few
days has
caused
the authorities
to modiiy
this view.
The regi=trar generals
regort
to
be published today,
it is
understood,
shows
the outbreak
to have
reached
the
stage
which is officiaily recognized
as
an
epidemic.
A
large number
of
the
cascs
are of so mild a nature
that the sufferers
treat
themselves,
nevertheless
the
num
ber of deaths
is substantially
increasing.
It
is
impossible
to
accurately
appraise
“the
situation
until
the registrar
reveals
the figures dealing
with the deaths,
but
the epidemic
threcatens
to become
more
serious,
unless
checked
by
a change
of
weather.
