Committee on Health, Hospitals, and Human Services
Please be advised that the Committee on Health, Hospitals & Human Services will be conducting a hearing on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. in the Earle B. Ottley Legislative Hall, on St. Thomas.
BLOCK I
The Committee will receive testimony regarding the potential and observed public health risks associated with prolonged exposure to untreated sewage throughout the Territory, including a detailed assessment of the risks of waterborne and airborne illnesses, the potential contamination of groundwater, coastal waters, and surrounding environments, and the impact of untreated sewage exposure on vulnerable populations, including children, seniors, individuals with compromised immune systems, and persons with respiratory or chronic health conditions.

The members will also receive information on any public advisories, warnings, mitigation measures, or emergency responses issued by the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority, as well as any coordination, communication, or joint response efforts with the Virgin Islands Department of Health and other relevant agencies to address and mitigate the public health concerns associated with untreated sewage exposure.

BLOCK II
The members will receive testimony regarding cancer in the Virgin Islands, available patient services and support programs, and opportunities for governmental agencies, healthcare providers, nonprofit organizations, and community partners to support the Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Center once it becomes operational.
