COMMEMORATIVE CEREMONY
ST. CROIX, U.S. Virgin Islands — Members of the 36th Legislature, under the leadership of Senate President Milton E. Potter, hosted a Commemorative Ceremony at the Frits E. Lawaetz Conference Room to mark the beginning of their legislative term and reaffirm their commitment to addressing the needs of the Virgin Islands community.
During his opening remarks, Senate President Potter reflected on the significance of this event, marking a new chapter in the vibrant history of the Virgin Islands. He welcomed attendees with warmth, stating, "The elections represent the hope and aspirations that voters hold for the future. Each senator brings a unique blend of passion, skills, and talents. I liken this unity to a pot of callaloo—when all the ingredients come together, the result is something truly delightful."
Acknowledging the challenges facing the community, Potter added, "While our issues are formidable, they are not insurmountable. We must make decisions that reflect the very best of who we are as a people."
Collectively, lawmakers shared messages of inspiration and praise, reflecting on the significant work that lies ahead as they commit to serving their community. They emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration, recognizing that working together with shared purpose will be key to overcoming challenges and achieving meaningful progress. They also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the family members and friends present, acknowledging their unwavering support throughout this journey.
Senators present are Milton E. Potter, Kenneth L. Gittens, Avery L. Lewis, Alma Francis Heyliger, Carla J. Joseph, Angel L. Bolques, Jr., Novelle E. Francis, Jr., Marvin A. Blyden, Ray Fonseca, Franklin D. Johnson, Kurt A Vialet, Clifford A. Joseph, Marise C. James, and Hubert L. Frederick. Senator Dwayne M. DeGraff was excused.
